Game On!

On my new Facebook group, I asked members to help me choose between two retiring stamp sets for my weekend crafting. I love a fun challenge, so it seemed appropriate that the unanimous winner was Game On!

For my first card, I chose a wiper mechanism so that the playing cards could fan out. Besides having interactive elements, I also love adding dimension to cards, so the chess pieces were elevated using bits of Foam Adhesive Sheets. I then stamped the chess image again and cut out just the 3 foreground pieces. I used my fingers to gently curl them a bit and then glued strips of scrap cardstock behind them to create additional subtle dimension.

While I had the Game On set out, I decided to create another project, pairing it with the Whiskey Business set. If you understand the reference for this card, I’m going to assume you have Netflix 😉. The card uses a very different color scheme, inspired by Jan Brown’s brilliant chess board. I added a vellum layer to help set off the sentiment and images against the background. The birthday greeting is from the Sweet Strawberry set, and I used the Playful Alphabet dies to complete the custom message.

To create the glossy effect for the whiskey bottle and glass, I used clear embossing powder. Once I colored my images and fussy cut them out, I pressed the whole thing onto my Versmark ink pad. I then sprinkled clear embossing powder on them and melted it with my heat tool. Be sure to use tweezers for this step so you don’t burn your fingers! As soon as each one finished heating, I placed a stamping block on top to add a little weight and help press them down during the brief cooling period so that they stay flat. I repeated this process twice more to create a thicker layer of “glass.”

The Game on Set is only available through May 3rd, or until supplies last. Scroll down for the full product list.
