Hi! I’m Vy with Crafting Daily Dose. Welcome to this month’s A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop, featuring alternatives for the June 2024 Life is Sweet kit.
This kit included supplies for 9 cards, 3 each of 3 designs. Kits always come with an exclusive stamp set, a mini ink cube, embellishments, and adhesives. As of today, refills are still available for this kit.
I really love the scallop detailing on the envelope flaps this month, so I decided to create a little book with them. This project was inspired by something my friend Janet sent me a couple of years ago during the holidays. She had made gift tags for me to use and put it into the envelopes. So thoughtful! These books can also be used as journals and to hold memorabilia. The one here is going to a relative and will include notes and a gift card. I’ve ordered a refill of this kit so I can create a larger book. My middle daughter is going off to college soon, and I’m going to include letters from all of us, some photos, and a QR code to a video message.
I started by cutting the chipboard from the kit in half and covering the pieces with
Unbounded Beauty Designer Series Paper (DSP), which has coordinating colors. I made diagonal cuts near the corners to create mitered edges and adhered them down. It’s not necessary for everything to line up perfectly because I then covered the backs with another pattern of DSP.
Next, I scored small strips of DSP down the middle vertically and adhered them to each envelope, lining up the edge of the envelope with the crease on the strip. These are used as the binding pieces. The first envelope is attached to the front cover, and then subsequent envelopes are attached to the one before. I added a final binding strip to the last envelope and adhered it to the back cover.
Another piece of DSP serves as the spine. I scored twice vertically to create 3 panels and used my bone folder to help curl the middle panel so that it would be more flexible. I then adhered the other panels to the front and back covers, leaving a hump along the spine so that there’s room for the contents to move.
All that was left to do was to decorate the front cover using supplies from the kit! I tied it all together with the included twine.
