Time for Cake: A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop

Hi! I’m Vy with Crafting Daily Dose. Welcome to this month’s A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop, featuring alternatives for the August 2024 Time for Cake kit.

This kit included supplies for 9 cards, 3 each of 3 designs. Kits always come with an exclusive stamp set, a mini ink cube, embellishments, and adhesives. As of today, refills are still available for this kit.

My first project is a very simple alternative that just requires an additional scrap of cardstock. I assembled this card almost exactly like the original, but I added dimension to the large balloon by creating a paper spring, Using a strip of Basic White cardstock, I scored some lines and accordian-folded them as shown below. And voila! The balloon rises more than 1/2” from the surface of the card but squashes down to fit inside the envelope. In the profile picture, compare the large balloon to the two smaller ones that have Dimensional foam stickers under them. It’s a really easy way to add a lot of height!

Measurements:

- Basic White cardstock

  • 3” (W) x 1/2” (H), scored at 1/2”, 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-3/4", 2", 2-1/4", and 2-1/2" along the long side

I love the extra stamp set we received with this kit. The number stamps are so versatile and were perfect for this peek-a-boo card, though of course you can stamp messages or images instead. I’ve shared a tutorial for a similar card before, so you can see how the card pieces get assembled. The key here is using one of the cardbases from the kit for the front of the card. The original score line can be seen, but I’ve disguised it a bit by applying the “hooray” die cut right over it. Cardstock is added for the other parts of the card, and I chose Petal Pink for the card back so that the part that shows through the window matches the cake.

Measurements:

- Kit cardbase (card front)

  • 8-1/4” (W) x 4-1/4” (H), scored at 2-3/4” along the long side. Trim 1/4" from the width of the front of the cardbase so that the original scoreline is now 4" from the new edge. You will be creating a new scoreline that is 2-3/4" from the back edge of the card. Trim the height to 4-1/4" so that the cake image can still be seen fully.

- Basic White cardstock (card middle)

  • 8-1/2” (W) x 4-1/4” (H), scored at 4-1/4” along the long side

- Petal Pink cardstock (card back)

  • 5-3/4” (W) x 4-1/4” (H), scored at 5-1/2” along the long side

I cut the windows using a 2” circle punch, but you can use any punch or die of a similar size. Save the piece that is punched out from the cake section to be adhered to the part that flips into view as the card is opened.

Thank you so much for visiting! Don’t forget to follow the hop to see other creative projects from our team!
