Hi! I’m Vy with Crafting Daily Dose. Welcome to this month’s A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop, featuring alternatives for the June 2023 Welcome Inn kit.
This kit included supplies for 9 cards—3 each of 3 different designs. Kits always come with an exclusive stamp set, a mini ink cube, embellishments, and adhesives. Refills are no longer available for this kit.
This first project uses only pieces from the kit for the front. I added extra score lines to one of the cardbases to make a W-shape; it is basically a gatefold card that folds to the back.
The decorative panel is made pretty much like the original card design. For extra dimension, I used my bone folder to curl the vase die cut and then adhered it with adhesive foam strips under the center to create a curved shape.
Instead of using the banner as intended, I turned it to the side, trimmed off the triangular ends, and then added score lines near the edges to create gluing tabs. This piece spans across the middle 2 panels of the cardbase to create a dimensional support for the decorative panel. It's a quick and easy modification!
The back of the card has plenty of room for a message. If you're using only supplies from the kit, stamp decorations directly onto the card back. I chose to stamp and then cut out a vase with the coordinating die. I also added a Misty Moonlight leaf sprig from the die set.
Measurements:
-Kit cardbase
8-1/2” (W) x 5-1/2” (H), scored at 2-1/8", 4-1/4" (already there), and 6-3/8" along the long side
-Kit banner
5" (W) x 1-1/2" (H), scored at 1/2" from each end along the long side
To fit this card into the envelope, just tuck the side "wings" to the back.
The second project turns the back of the card into a focal point as well. Here, I've attached the vases upside down and used them as hanging lanterns. It's fun to watch them sway when the card is opened!
This card is obviously more involved, but it starts out with that same W-fold. The Night of Navy side of the cardbase becomes a nighttime background for the lanterns. After scoring the cardbase, I used the Take Your Pick tool to poke 4 holes. I then threaded through a length of twine, which was leftover from a past Paper Pumpkin. I secured the twine by taping down a little over 1" of each end on the white side of the card.
Next, I tied additional pieces of twine onto this first piece. I stamped several lanterns in festive colors: Sweet Sorbet, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, and Tahitian Tide. I also did white heat embossing onto a lantern cut from Parakeet Party cardstock. I die cut them out and then added a swipe of Stampin' Seal to the back of each one to attach it to its "hanger" (the more narrow part of the vase shape goes on top this time). I made sure to stagger the heights to make them look more interesting, and then I trimmed any excess twine. Once I was happy with the placement of all the lanterns, I flipped them over one at a time and glued a plain die cut to the back to sandwich in the twine.
Now for the front! The decorative panel also serves as a message panel. I made a couple more lanterns and used a Stampin' Write marker to draw in hangers for them.
Finally, there are 2 decorative panels added to the side "wings" of the card to cover up the holes and ends of the twine. If I had needed more room to write a message, I could leave these panels plain or stamp just a lantern or 2 on them. Since I didn't need the extra space, I filled them up with a pattern. The design stamp from the kit can dovetail nicely to create a continuous look. I used strips of foam adhesive just at the top and bottom to adhere each panel. Because the panels are slightly elevated in that way, there's no visible bump from the twine underneath.
